1918 Hammond Multiplex
AL 207286
Most books and resources claim these green Hammonds were produced for the U.S. Army during World War I, but some collectors (including me) are skeptical of that claim. There are about 20 surviving green Hammonds, and most were made between 1918-1919. There’s also evidence that green Multiplexes were sold well after the Great War. Famously, Woodrow Wilson used a green Multiplex (AL 206242) on his tour advocating for the League of Nations, and it was returned to the White House during the JFK Administration. It’s currently on display at the White House Visitor Center.
