1936 Olivetti MP1 Ico (Simplicitas)

In 1932, the Italian-made MP1—short for Modello Portatile 1—marked Olivetti’s entrance into the portable typewriter market. This MP1 is commonly referred to as the “Ico” because of the conspicuous badge on the front of the machine. Ico stands for Ingegnere [Engineer] Camillo Olivetti, who founded the company. This particular MP1 features a rare, vogue-like sans serif type style known as simplicitas.
